Two-thirds of the way through, the margin is thinner than planned — and you can see it now, while there is still room to manage scope, rather than discovering it at the end. When the job closes, the true margin is already there, no spreadsheet required.

In short, the timesheet answers the questions: who worked, when they worked, what they worked on, and how many hours they spent on each activity.
